Hester is the Latin form of Esther – a Persian name used since the Protestant Reformation. Hester was the heroine in The Scarlet Letter, who was forced to wear a red “A” on her chest after having a child out of wedlock. Hester was described as being bold, bright, and beautiful – just like a star.
